A part-time role, based at the SEE Change office at the Downer Community Centre, up to 28 hours per week (flexible timing/location arrangements possible).

Who is SEE Change?

SEE Change is a grass-roots small charitable organisation focused on making improvements to the sustainability of our Society, Environment and Economy (SEE). Our purpose is to empower, enable and drive behavioural and structural changes towards a fair and sustainable Canberra region.

Who are we seeking?

We are seeking a part-time Executive Director to lead the day-to-day operation of SEE Change. The role of Executive Director is supported by other part-time employees of SEE Change, our volunteer board and other volunteers across the SEE Change Groups.

You will have a very high level of organisational skills and experience in building relationships with the government and/or community sector, together with an ability to lead and inspire others.

You will work closely with the SEE Change Board, SEE Change staff, Convenors of SEE Change Groups, SEE Change members, the ACT government, local environment and community groups, and volunteers on a range of tasks, including:

  • Fostering community-based groups to take action towards sustainability in our region;
  • Advocacy across government and the community;
  • Developing community-based change through transformation projects;
  • Building alliances with local environmental and community organisations and businesses;
  • Organising project work and office administration (including regulatory, financial), supported by office staff, the volunteer Treasurer and paid bookkeeper;
  • Reporting to, and working with, the SEE Change Board;
  • Promoting SEE Change through the media, newsletters, social media and public presentations; and
  • Preparation of grants (government and philanthropic) for operational funding and of projects and other fundraising to diversify SEE Change’s revenue.

This role is for up to 28 hours per week (average commitment across the year with flexibility from week to week). The role will initially be for 12 months with the possibility of extensions depending on SEE Change’s funding. Remuneration will be negotiated based on experience level of the successful applicant and will be in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (ACT) Level 7 plus superannuation. The ED will also have access to, and home garage, the SEE Change Electric Van.

An agreed flexible working arrangement would allow you to work from home at times. Weekend and after-hours work will also be required on occasions (eg for SEE Change events).

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Demonstrated high level communication skills. This includes: building relationships and negotiating with a broad range of stakeholders, such as government, community organisations and a diversity of people; producing high quality written communication for a range of audiences; conducting public presentations; and engaging with senior managers and reporting to the Board.
  2. Demonstrated high level strategic, research/analytical/problem solving skills. This includes: the ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgement to identify priority issues that need attention; and to develop acceptable solutions within a constrained volunteer, service delivery environment.
  3. Demonstrated experience and interest in any relevant areas. This includes relevant tertiary qualifications and/or professional experience in the areas of environment/sustainable development; and/or community development; and/or climate change.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of autonomy to lead the organisation. This includes managing community development projects and to prioritising a wide range of tasks within tight timeframes.
  5. Demonstrated experience of working with small teams to deliver results. This includes managing and supporting staff and/or volunteers.
  6. Demonstrated experience in office administration (financial and budgeting) and using a range of relevant software programs.
