Senator Barbara Pocock is seeking a full-time, ongoing Campaigns and Policy Advisor to join her team. Location is negotiable and includes regular travel. Adelaide or Canberra preferred.

The Campaigns and Policy Advisor will be responsible for the Senator’s campaigns, digital engagement and provide support to the policy and parliamentary staff.

This will include building the Senator’s profile, producing, and managing content for social media platforms, and developing campaigns. This role will support parliamentary coordination, research, and policy work, including preparing for Estimates, media releases, committee work and speech writing.

Campaigns work will be focused largely on the Senator’s portfolio areas (employment, finance, and public sector), as well as other issues affecting South Australians. This may include the organisation of events.

This position will involve travel to Canberra for Parliamentary sitting weeks, may involve travel to South Australia, and include some weekend work and/or irregular hours.

The Campaigns and Policy Advisor is part of a small, collaborative team currently based in Adelaide and Canberra, as well as linking into the leaders and national Greens communications teams.

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984, classified at Electorate Officer B ($71,245 - $83,179). Conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament (Staff) Enterprise Agreement 2020-23. Generous employer sponsored superannuation of 15.4% also applies.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide key campaigns advice, strategy, and implementation.
  • Manage the Senator’s social media in consultation with the Senator.
  • Develop and implement a campaign strategy, in line with the broader team strategy, to further build the Senator’s profile.
  • Write speeches, media releases, statements, and questions to support the parliamentary and policy staff.
  • Support policy and parliamentary staff with committee work and Senate Estimates.
  • Prepare for, develop, and manage events in collaboration with the team.
  • Prepare digital and printed materials for campaigns in collaboration with the team.
  • Produce photography and/or videography of the Senator at events or community activities that you attend with her.
  • Liaise with the Greens party bodies and other elected representatives to ensure campaign alignment across jurisdictions.
  • Travel to Canberra for occasional parliamentary sitting dates to support the parliamentary staff.

Selection Criteria

  • Highly developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience.
  • A demonstrated understanding of political campaigning and sound knowledge of Australian Greens’ policies.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing digital media, including creating engaging content and using platform analytics to maximise reach.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated capacity to comprehend complex issues, think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to work as part of a small team, under time constraints and strict deadlines, with a minimum of supervision.
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite, Outlook, and with social media and design platforms.
  • Existing knowledge of federal parliamentary processes is desirable, but not essential.
  • Understanding and commitment to progressive Greens values.
