About the Role
Senator Lidia Thorpe is looking for a creative, energetic digital content producer and social media manager, who’s passionate about justice for First Peoples, to join her Melbourne-based team.
In this role, you will be responsible for creating engaging digital content for social media that communicates Senator Thorpe’s policy priorities and maintaining engaged, safe online communities.
Key Responsibilities
- You’ll work closely with Lidia’s Media and Communications Adviser, and campaign and policy teams, to translate complex ideas into motivating and engaging digital content, and drive Lidia’s social media strategy.
- You’ll be writing copy, shooting and editing video, designing creative assets, and taking photos to share across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X and other platforms.
- You’ll monitor and moderate social media communities, to keep on top of the latest trends, and ensure communities are safe, accessible, and engaged.
- You’ll help amplify the voices of First Peoples on Lidia’s platforms, through collaboration and by building relationships with stakeholders and communities.
Selection Criteria
- Understanding of and commitment to First Nations, social and environmental justice.
- Experience with digital content creation, including graphic design and short-form video production for social media – ideally experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut or similar, and experience with Adobe InDesign or Canva.
- Experience with social media administration and moderation, and ideally some experience in Meta and Google advertising.
- Ability to work as part of a close team under time constraints, competing priorities and other pressures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships across diverse groups.
- Understanding of the Australian political landscape, particularly in relation to First Nations.
Terms of appointment
- The role is for up to 15 hours per week freelance/contracted position, due to parliamentary budget provisions, paid at $51 p/hr.
- Flexible arrangements can be negotiated for work location and weekly hours. Ideally, hours would be spread across five days, with some time spent in Senator Thorpe's Collingwood Office.
- We will request that a confidentiality agreement and code of conduct be signed prior to commencing work.
