Social Education Victoria (SEV) is an incorporated, not-for-profit professional teacher association for Victorian teachers. Our mission is to promote, support and resource the teaching and learning of sociology, politics, civics and citizenship education; to promote active and democratic citizenship and cultural understanding across communities, and to collaborate with relevant organisations, locally, nationally, regionally and globally.
Position description
We are seeking applications for the position of Publications and Communications Coordinator to commence in early April 2021. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with a passion for creating high-quality resources for teachers and students.
The position is offered as a part time role; SEV is dedicated to supporting employees to balance the requirements of their position with other personal or family commitments. Applicants from culturally diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Scope of duties
- Working closely with the Executive Officer, coordinate the publication and delivery of textbooks, educational resources and related publications (print and digital)
- Coordinate contributions from content producers (field-leading humanities teachers)
- Perform copy editing of resources and communications for style and consistency
- Support the SEV team with general copy editing of newsletters, social media posts and other written materials as time allows
- Perform the role of Editor of Ethos – SEV's journal
- Assist with delivery of various related projects as directed
The successful applicant is expected to have:
- Experience in publishing (print and digital) and editing (essential)
- Demonstrated all-round administrative and time management skills, communicating and working well in a small team (essential)
- Familiarity with education, politics, sociology, humanities, maintaining digital resources and publications including web content (positively regarded)
- Project coordination experience (positively regarded)
Conditions
- Part-time position (0.5 FTE) with flexible hours – (16-22 hours per week, averaging 19 hours per week)
- $64,000 salary equivalent (x 0.5 FTE), pro-rata
- 9-month term (April 2021 to December 2021), with possibility of extension
- 20 days annual leave per annum, pro-rata
- Working from home, with ability to attend to occasional/ad hoc business requirements and in-person meetings in metro Melbourne (key locations are in the inner north and western suburbs – Seddon, Brunswick, Pascoe Vale and occasionally the CBD)
- A computer will be provided.
Key selection criteria
The successful applicant will be expected to have:
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating print and digital publications, including liaising with writers, coordinating content submissions, coordinating typesetting, performing copy-editing, liaising with contractors and distributors;
- A demonstrated aptitude for copy editing for style and consistency across a broad range of written formats, such as textbooks, educational resources, journals and newsletters;
- Exceptional communication skills and a demonstrated ability to working collaboratively and productively in small team environments;
- Demonstrated strong all-round administrative and time management skills, including customer and stakeholder relationship management;
- Knowledge of, or demonstrated curiosity about, our key subject areas, including politics, sociology, civics, citizenship, the humanities, and social education;
- Proficiency with relevant software and platforms such as Microsoft Office suite products (Outlook, Word, Excel), MacOS, Adobe products such as including InDesign and Illustrator, and/or online content management platforms.
