Women's House Shelta

ABOUT YOUR ORGANISATION

Women’s House Shelta is committed to working towards ending violence against women and children. Activities undertaken by the organisation are underpinned by a feminist analysis that places domestic and family violence in its socio-political context

The two primary services we are funded to provide are:

Domestic Violence Refuges: These are high-security crisis accommodations at a confidential address for women and children at risk of further violence. Workers are on-call to refuge residents 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Centre-Based Outreach Support: Our Outreach Centre is located at 15 Morrisey St., Woolloongabba, and is co-located with the Brisbane Rape and Incest Survivors’ Support Service.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Women's House Shelta workers endeavour to respond flexibly and responsively to the specific and often complex practical and emotional needs of women and children who have been subjected to violence. We advocate for women and children on individual and systemic levels in relation to the barriers that make it so difficult for women to leave violent relationships.

Women’s House Shelta works collectively, which means that all workers have equal power in the decision-making processes at meetings and all receive the same rates of remuneration. This means that workers have joint responsibility in the management of the whole organisation and the day-to-day operation of the services.

The position on offer is a one-year contract. You would be required to work a minimum of 33.4 hrs per week (4 days a week and some on-call hours). The hourly permanent part-time rate is based on level 5.2 of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award, 2010 (SCHADS).

A position description is attached.
