About the Role:

The IT Support Officer is responsible for providing technical assistance and support to individuals across Surf Life Saving Queensland. Your primary role involves troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving problems with hardware, software, networks, and systems. You may also be involved in the setup, maintenance, and configuration of technology systems. This role is based at our South Brisbane office and occasional travel to our regional offices may be required.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Use helpdesk software to manage jobs.
  • Responding to and resolving user queries via phone, email, or in person within the appropriate response times.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to hardware, software, and networks.
  • Providing on-site or remote support to users experiencing IT-related problems.
  • Installing and configuring computer systems, software, and hardware.
  • Setting up user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Regular maintenance of computer systems, servers, and networks.
  • Monitoring the performance of SLSQ’s network and troubleshooting any issues.
  • Assisting with network security and firewall configurations.
  • Managing and troubleshooting wireless networks and VPN connections.
  • Installing, updating, and configuring software applications.
  • Assisting with the management of licenses for software applications.
  • Providing user support for commonly used software programs and troubleshooting compatibility issues.
  • Ensuring data is backed up regularly and securely.
  • Assisting with data recovery processes in case of data loss.
  • Implementing disaster recovery plans for critical systems.
  • Offering guidance and training to staff on best practices and using various software and systems.
  • Documenting solutions, processes, and troubleshooting steps to create a knowledge base for the team and users.
  • Ensuring that systems are secure and compliant with organisational policies and industry regulations.
  • Applying security patches and updates to systems to protect against cyber threats.
  • Monitoring for potential security vulnerabilities and assisting with incident response.

Skills & Experience:

  • Working with Children Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
  • Relevant IT/industry experience and/or qualifications/experience in the following areas: Windows Server, Windows 10/11, Microsoft Intune & Microsoft 365.
  • Understanding of networking concepts (IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, VPNs).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Customer service oriented, with a patient and helpful attitude.
  • Ability to explain technical issues in simple, understandable terms.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with IT security practices and tools.
  • Attention to detail, however small the detail may be.
  • Knowledge of data backup and recovery procedures.
  • Efficient use of IT ticketing and documentation systems.
  • Deal with situations on a strictly confidential basis.
