The Smith Family is a children’s education charity that helps young Australians experiencing disadvantage to create better futures for themselves through harnessing the power of education.

We are seeking an experienced Communications Manager to join our organisation. You would report to the National Manager, Philanthropy Communications and work within a close-knit, energised and passionate team. This role is responsible for helping to drive the effective development and delivery of communications activity to support Philanthropy events, and the acquisition and retention of corporate partners, major donors, and trusts and foundations.

About our role

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing, coaching and developing a team to meet KPIs, ensuring they are motivated, supported and have clear priorities.
  • Writing, editing and approving copy across a diverse range of materials to enable the Philanthropy team to achieve their communication objectives, while ensuring accurate and factual representation of The Smith Family's work.
  • Helping to create and source first-hand student, family and supporter stories to demonstrate our impact
  • Developing, implementing and approving marketing communications materials that effectively position and profile The Smith Family, are audience-tailored, maintain brand integrity, and support income growth, acquisition and retention for Philanthropic audiences.
  • Supporting the development and execution of high-value cause-related marketing campaigns in collaboration with our corporate partners.

About you

As well as passion for community, you will bring the following:

  • At least five years’ experience developing and executing communications/marketing materials or campaigns.
  • Strong, demonstrable experience writing and editing for diverse audiences.
  • Experience developing content and/or first-hand stories.
  • Proven ability to build strong cooperative relationships with key stakeholders and to work collaboratively across teams to deliver excellent results.
  • Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A talent for multi-tasking and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Previous experience delivering multi-channel campaigns (client or agency side) is highly desirable.
  • Experience managing a team and a relevant degree qualification are desirable.
