Speak Out is a state-wide organisation dedicated to promoting a respectful and inclusive community for individuals with intellectual and cognitive disabilities. Through advocacy and governance, we defend individual rights and empower our members while fostering greater understanding across the community. As a not-for-profit organisation, Speak Out operates offices in Hobart, Launceston, and Burnie.

About the Role:

This is an independent, hands-on role supporting the Members Executive in their governance duties. You will assist with meeting preparation, coordination, and follow-up, as well as provide direct support to the Members President in their Board-related responsibilities.

This role will be approximately 80 hours per year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transporting Members Executive to and from meetings (one meeting every six weeks in Launceston on Saturdays).
  • Preparing agendas, minutes, and other meeting documents for Members Executive meetings.
  • Providing meeting support, including explaining information clearly and assisting Members Executive during discussions.
  • Assisting the Members President with Board meeting preparation, including drafting the President’s Report.
  • Offering ongoing support during meetings to ensure all information is accessible and understood, usually after 5.30pm.
  • Participating in Self-Advocacy Group or Peer Support meetings, as required.
