Outstanding Sydney-based senior journalism role, with substantial WFH / flexibility

Industrial relations news service Workplace Express is seeking a journalist with substantial experience to join the leadership of our small editorial team in Sydney.

The permanent full-time job involves sourcing and reporting news for the real-time publication, alongside supervising other journalists and subbing their work.

After an initial induction and settling-in period, the role has scope to be performed to a substantial degree from home.

The successful candidate will require strong journalism and reporting skills, an ability to produce clean, accurate copy to deadlines and at least a decade of experience.

Knowledge of industrial relations, economics, politics and parliamentary and legal systems would be a distinct advantage, as would a background in court reporting.

The position provides the opportunity to report on a key area of economic and social importance and to work as part of a focused team.

Pay range $95 to $125K.

Essential

  • Willingness to start at 6.30am (remotely), with early finish time.
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent
  • Extensive experience in journalism and reporting
  • Ability to write crisp, clean copy requiring minimal editing
  • Ability to sub-edit to a high standard
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Ability to supervise others
  • Ability to make and maintain contacts
  • Ability to source news
  • Ability to understand legal documents
  • Interest in industrial relations reporting
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Understanding of the Australian political and legal system

Desirable

  • Knowledge of industrial relations, economics, politics and the law
  • Experience in court reporting
  • Experience in electronic publishing and content management systems
