With a vision for a physically active, connected, inclusive and resilient community, Sports Focus and its partners strive to support the development of physical activity opportunities for all members of the community. Based in Bendigo, but servicing central Victoria, the professional team at Sports Focus works diligently to provide participation opportunities for marginalised and/or under-represented groups and/or those that are yet to find their preferred sport option.
Regular physical activity brings people together. Not only does it provide the associated health benefits, but it also creates community connection and social cohesion, especially when undertaken through community sport. The community sport sector relies heavily on a volunteer workforce and Sports Focus, through its position as a highly respected peak body, provides the capacity building activities to ensure the volunteer workforce is suitably skilled to successfully undertake its important role.
The Community Sport Partnerships (CSP) program is designed to build capacity in sporting club volunteers, so the community sport sector in central Victoria continues to grow and strengthen in a sustainable way. Supported by our dynamic team of highly respected health professionals, you will put your well-developed relationship skills to work, partnering with not only sporting club volunteers, but also Local Government Authorities, Victorian State Government representatives, State and National Sporting Organisations, Corporate sector and sport-related Peak Bodies to deliver bespoke evidence-based activities to address areas of concern for each client club.
The challenges in this role are numerous. The community sport sector relies heavily on a volunteer workforce that is time poor, over-worked and under-resourced. That said, the rewards can be significant. You have the potential to create considerable impact and to grow, not only the community sport sector, but also the CSP program through your diligence and outcome focused approach.
The Consultant needs to be a 'people person', someone who can create strong positive relationships with key stakeholders and sporting club volunteers. Through their prior experience as a player and/or volunteer, they need to understand the challenges facing volunteers and be prepared to display empathy, understanding and patience.
Your attention to detail will be one of your greatest strengths, as you work with the club volunteers to develop and implement solutions that address their areas of concern. Success in this role will be measured on the outcomes achieved, the impact of your work at a club level and the growth achieved in the CSP program over time. Your time management skills will be crucial as you juggle numerous projects and their tight timelines and your flexibility to meet with club volunteers in their environment and at a time suitable to them will be pivotal to your success.
Rest assured you will be afforded every possible support to assist you. With approximately 100 years of combined service across our existing staff we know our community and we have a high level of understanding of the community sport sector. What we don't know, we have extensive networks at our disposal to find out. We will also provide an extensive suite of professional and personal development opportunities to complement your existing skills and knowledge, so no stone will be left unturned to enhance your chances of success.
Your 27.5 hour working week has a degree flexibility attached to it. We operate normal business hours Monday - Friday. How you apply your time can be negotiated to meet the demands of the volunteer workforce and the operational requirements at Sports Focus. You will be responsible for assisting in the setting of your annual budget and you will enjoy a high level of autonomy in this role, as well as numerous opportunities for professional and personal development.
