About the Role
As a Casework Specialist you will be part of the Quality Assurance team and will work alongside casework teams to promote best practice and support continuous improvement in service delivery. You will achieve this by supporting quality practice and building the skills and capabilities of our caseworkers and managers.
- Foster accountable and collaborative casework that respects the culture and context of each child, young person, family and community and is based on timely sharing of accurate information to ensure that the support meets their identified needs.
- Provide expert knowledge and understanding of the statutory requirements of the OOHC sector and support caseworkers in applying this to their practice.
- Provide specialist advice to all levels of management and groups of staff and provide expert assistance in complex or sensitive cases
- Work with and mentor caseworkers and managers in a planned and coordinated manner to role model and develop case practice skills that is responsive to the changing needs of children, young people and families
- Undertake reviews and identify gaps in caseworker practice, report on findings, and find solutions to improve the quality of casework through professional development and quality assurance programs
- Develop an understanding of research and research-to-practice initiatives and commit to ongoing personal professional development including attending relevant practice forums and educational events
- Support the transfer of policy and research into practical casework application via role modelling with caseworkers and taking a lead role in specific casework functions as a component of supported learning and development
- Implement professional development programs within service delivery areas that improve and guide local casework and achieve clearly articulated quality casework outcomes
- Develop and maintain networks and relationships with key stakeholders and clinical experts to deliver appropriate services for children, young people and families
- Other duties as directed from time to time within your skills range and capacity.
Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor's degree) in Social Science, b. Social Work or equivalent
- Minimum 7 years' experience in working with children, young people, carers and families involved in child protection and/or NSW Statutory OOHC services.
- Experience in leading, supervising and/or coaching team members.
- Experience and knowledge of the Children's Court processes and related legislation and standards.
- Knowledge of child development and trauma related models.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Well-developed analytical and organisational skills.
- Well-developed conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- A valid NSW driver's licence
