About Role

The Disability Employment Services (DES) Consultant is a frontline role working directly with job seekers who have been referred onto the Disability Employment Services (DES) program with the underlying purpose to increase workforce participation for people with disabilities and directly case manage job seekers to be able to move into the workforce. This can be achieved through engaging customer service, individual and group coaching and support, individualised assistance, and customised interventions. Post placement support to employers and jobseekers is provided when job seekers are placed in employment, this is done through regularly following with employers, placed job seekers, and external stakeholders and creating ongoing relationships and support.

The DES consultant will actively engage with the community and community organisations to create and establish referral networks to increase client referrals and participation into the Disability Employment Program

About You

As a DES Consultant, you will be focused on finding employment outcomes for participants within the Disability Employment Services (DES) program by identifying opportunities and securing placements.

The key to your success in this role, will be building and maintaining effective relationships with local employers, pro-actively understanding their resourcing needs and successfully matching candidates to opportunities. A solid understanding of people centred case management principles including barrier management is core to your continued success.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage and empower a caseload of job seekers through regular contact and communication.
  • Establish individual job seekers’ barriers to employment, needs, goals, and job preferences through individual assessments and one to one interviews..
  • Maintain and grow relationships with community providers to generate open referrals into the program and also refer job seekers to specialist or community providers as and when required
  • Maintain ongoing and effective post-placement support to assist with a transition to ongoing and sustainable employment for job seekers, and supporting employers where necessary
  • Deliver suitable training and interventions to job seekers such as one to one or group job search activities, group training, education, work experience, or other suitable activities
  • Promote job seekers to suitable employment opportunities through a range of approaches, such as internal referral networks or dedicated Business Development staff, directly approaching employers on behalf of job seekers, following up on job applications, and other proactive job search activities
  • Refer job seekers to suitable vocational or non-vocational courses to assist with their development, and relevant further training or education opportunities
  • Maintain and update job seeker records via ESS Web and other systems, and review and update job seeker Job Plans on a regular basis

Essential Criteria

  • Certificate IV in Employment Services, Career Development, Disability Services, or other similar qualification, desirable or be willing to work towards
  • Ability to liaise, engage and build relationships within the community to engage new referral pathways into the program
  • Case management and experience interacting with job seekers both in groups and also one-on-on
  • Customer centric approach and the ability to work towards customer service standards, KPIs, and targets
  • The ability to show empathy
  • Good working knowledge of local, state and national labour markets.
  • Proven business development, sales or marketing ability including excellent communication skills, high level negotiation skills, and persuasive ability
  • Strong ethics, accountability, and integrity
  • Previous experience working in the Disability Employment Services sector and an understanding of working with long term unemployed job seekers is DESIRABLE
  • An understanding of the challenges facing people with a disability or mental illness entering the workforce, or any lived experience in this area is DESIRABLE
