About the role

The role of the Out of Home Care Caseworker is to provide casework support to children, young people and foster carers in a way that is consistent with the SSI model and internal policies.

The current vacancy is a full time (70 hours per fortnight) 6 month contract position based at Bankstown. Flexibility to travel locally is required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Undertake child and family case work including assessments, planning, placement support, monitoring and reviews.
  • Understand current permanency planning principles
  • Develop, implement and review children and young people’s case plans as per OOHC  policies and procedures
  • Match children and young people with foster carers as per the multicultural foster care model
  • Liaise with Family and Community Services, other government partners, non-government organisations and other stakeholders in relation to referrals and reportable activity as per OOHC policies and procedures
  • Ensure the views and wishes of children and young people are considered
  • Provide information, advice and support to foster carers
  • Make referrals, engage and work collaboratively with support services
  • Work collaboratively with OOHC program team members
  • Participate in OOHC quality improvement processes
  • Maintain professional knowledge in OOHC

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in child protection or OOHC and relevant tertiary degree or enrolled in relevant tertiary degree
  • Working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Well-developed analytical and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Negotiating strategy, techniques and skills
  • A valid NSW driver's licence
  • Computer literate with intermediate level MS Office skills (Word & Excel)

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Fluency in languages such as Arabic, Turkish and Vietnamese are highly desirable.
