Purpose of the Role

This role sits within the new NSW Multicultural DFV Service. The Research and Service Development Specialist is responsible for leading research engagement and developing services models that enhance service delivery and engagement of multicultural communities around DFSV and the broader service system in NSW. The role will lead consultations and policy input into the service and service systems, including harnessing lived experience. In this role, you will play a key role in enhancing the response to domestic family violence by empowering individuals and organizations with the tools and resources they need to support survivors and prevent violence.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead research projects, evaluate program effectiveness, and collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement cutting-edge initiatives that address the complex challenges of domestic family violence. You will play a pivotal role in shaping policies, practices, and interventions that promote safety, healing, and empowerment for survivors and their communities.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage with evidence based service development and roll out new models or approaches to improve service delivery towards multicultural communities in the context of DFSV.
  • Engage in research projects and research issues relevant to working with DFSV victim survivors from migrant and refugee backgrounds, including demographic changes and trends observed within different communities and migration patterns.
  • Establish a relationship with the DFSV research bodies such as ANROWS, universities, key researchers in the field with an aim to increase research output that takes into consideration multicultural communities.
  • Establish a lived experience panel, including relevant training and support mechanisms to support members of the panel.
  • Draft position papers, policies and project applications from time to time in collaboration with the team, the multicultural sector and other DFSV related positions within SSI.
  • Hold consultations with sector staff and communities to enrich understanding of DFSV in the context of DFSV and participate in consultations held by others.
  • Participate in the broader activities of the service, SSI and the division the role sits within.
  • Other duties as directed from time to time within your skills range and capacity.

Essential Criteria

  • Considerable understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies that allow for engagement in research projects
  • Research to practice translation skills suitable for service development activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills relevant to holding effective consultations and submission writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships with internal & external stakeholders
  • Multicultural background or extensive experience in the multicultural services sector.
  • Solid understanding of gender based violence and drivers of DFSV is DESIRABLE
  • An understanding of research or evidence gathering with children subjected to DFSV is DESIRABLE
  • Bilingual/bicultural is DESIRABLE
