About the Role

The Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative is funded by the Queensland State Government to driving job growth and strengthen the performance of the Queensland economy by improving skills development and work opportunities for disadvantaged Queenslanders. The Skilling Queenslander for Work (SQW) Program Coordinator is a vital position within SSI Employment Division. The purpose of this position is to deliver on a range of activities within the program as outlined in the SQW funding agreement.

SSI prides itself in the “Client First” model that is reflected across all programs. This entails ensuring activities are tailored to meet the individual needs of all participants and aligns perfectly with the objectives of the SQW initiative.

The role will be responsible for all aspects of the program including liaising with stakeholders such as RTO’s, Employers, Community organisations and the Department of Youth Justice, Employment, Small Business and Training (DYESBT) representatives.

The role will also include but not limited to business development with employers either corporate, small to medium enterprises and or Government and non-government agencies.

The position will be required to produce reports assigned by the government bodies and other agencies as well as managing the workload in a mostly autonomous environment.

This position will also require the ability to support, mentor and guide program participants to resolve any issues or barriers that they have to education, training and employment throughout the duration of the program and post program support requirements.

Key Responsibilities not limited to:

  • In conjunction with the Employment Program Manager, coordinate the SQW program deliverables including recruitment of eligible participants, marketing and promotion;
  • Follow and adhere to contract guidelines in relation to the Skilling Queenslanders for Work Program including but not limited to SSI associated documents, policies and procedures;
  • Maintain relationship with Registered Training Organisation to ensure participants are engaging and progressing through the program and to manage any learning barriers or absenteeism;
  • Market and promote programs to external agencies in order to grow the sustainability of the programs;
  • In conjunction with the Program Manager, develop and implement a Training and Development Program in line with contractual obligations and the strategic direction of different programs and activities for all participants;
  • Facilitate and deliver culturally appropriate and specific training to participants including pre-employment sessions such as interview skills, resume writing, goal setting and attend networking sessions with employers;
  • Promote participants to suitable work experience or employment opportunities through a range of approaches, such as internal referral networks, directly approaching local employers on behalf of participants, and other proactive job search activities;
  • Establish individual participant’s needs, career goals and aspirations, and career preferences to assist in establishing potential career pathways and opportunities;
  • Produce statistical reports, monthly reports, progress/ performance reports and annual reports as requested;
  • Represent SSI at key events, network meetings, committees and public forums.

Other duties as directed from time to time within your skills range and capacity.

Essential Criteria

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Employment Services, Career Development, Community Services, or other similar qualification, desirable or be willing to work towards;
  • Experience in delivering pre-employment workshops to jobseekers;
  • Good working knowledge of Local, State, and National labour markets;
  • Previous experiences in delivery of Government funded programs: Skilling Queenslanders for Work SQW programs highly regarded;
  • Customer centric approach and the ability to work towards customer service standards, KPIs, and targets. Cultural understanding of CALD people and their barriers and support requirements;
  • Proven business development, sales or marketing ability including excellent communication skills, high level negotiation skills, and persuasive ability;
  • Aptitude for innovation and initiative;
  • Understanding of the challenges, barriers and stigma faced by people who are long term unemployed;
  • Proficiency in using current MS Office, database application and communication technologies;
  • Confident communication skills at a leadership level and excellent organisational skills with the ability to present to large audiences and deliver training and presentations
