THE ROLE

The Volunteer Youth Worker at St Kilda PCYC plays a key role in supporting the delivery of sports, recreation, and social programs that empower youth.

This role reports to the Youth Program Coordinators and will be responsible for the following:

  • Program Support – Assisting in the planning and facilitation of activities.
  • Mentorship – Providing positive role modelling and guidance to young people.
  • Engagement – Building relationships and encouraging youth participation.
  • Safety & Wellbeing – Ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
  • Logistics – Helping set up and pack down equipment for sessions.
  • Collaboration – Working alongside staff, youth workers, and other volunteers.
  • Administration – Assisting with attendance records and program feedback.

Selection Criteria

To be considered for the Volunteer Youth Worker role at St Kilda PCYC, applicants should meet the following criteria:

Essential Criteria

  • Passion for Youth Engagement – Demonstrated enthusiasm for working with young people in a supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Strong Communication & Interpersonal Skills – Ability to build rapport with youth, staff, and volunteers.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration – Willingness to work as part of a team to deliver programs effectively.
  • Reliability & Commitment – Ability to attend regular sessions and contribute consistently.
  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving – Capacity to engage with diverse groups and respond to challenges.
  • Respect for Diversity & Inclusion – Commitment to creating a safe and welcoming space for all young people.
  • Understanding of Youth Wellbeing – Awareness of the social, emotional, and mental health challenges young people may face.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience Working with Young People – Previous experience in youth work, coaching, mentoring, or community programs.
  • Sports & Recreation Background – Knowledge of or experience in sports, fitness, or recreation activities.
  • Event or Program Facilitation Experience – Ability to assist in planning and delivering structured activities.

Required Certificates & Checks

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) – Victoria (or willingness to obtain before commencing).
  • National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
  • First Aid & CPR Certificate (desirable but not essential).
  • Youth Work or Community Services Qualification (desirable but not essential).
