Role overview:
Are you someone with a passion for utilising your own lived experience of youth mental health challenges, to help others through their own recovery and wellbeing journey. Along with the ability to mentor and guide, you will have the following skills and experience:
- If you have been a Youth Peer Support Worker previously, great! If not, you will be excited about learning to facilitate groups and provide individual support in a safe, inclusive way
- A collaborative, open approach – this is a newly developed team, so you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to developing the culture and environment
- Strong communication and engagement skills - you will be having individual and group discussions with a range of young people. Being an active listener is also important
- Appropriate sharing of your own lived experience, working within professional boundaries and positive role-modelling
- Can easily talk to your peers but also switch gears to talk and advocate within a team of clinical professionals
- Understanding of your own triggers, self-care and self-reflection, and being open when you require support
- Good computer skills, use of Microsoft Suite and Client Management Systems
Requirements:
- Minimum of a Cert IV in a Community services related discipline (ideally a completed Bachelors or Diploma)
- Lived experience of supporting a young person during their first episode of psychosis and/or other significant mental health challenges.
- Willingness and ability to share your lived experience in a clear, safe, and purposeful way that describes the strategies and factors that have contributed to your own recovery journey.
- A broad understanding of the perspectives, experiences and impact of psychosis or significant mental illness has young people and their families/Carers or significant others.
- Desirable to have experience facilitating or co-facilitating recovery or support groups
- The ability to work autonomously, under supervision and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated effective listening, empathy and communication skills
- Excellent negotiation, problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to work to time frames, meet deadlines, and work in challenging situations.
- Competence with Microsoft Office
- Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Blue Card
- Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
- Current Driver's license
