St Vincent’s is a major teaching, research and tertiary referral centre providing acute or chronic medical and surgical services, as well as clinical training. The St Vincent’s Hospital (Melbourne) Animal Ethics Committee is responsible for the review, approval and ongoing monitoring of all research and teaching involving animals on the St Vincent’s Campus and the Committee’s purpose is to ensure that all activities relating to the care and use of animals are conducted in compliance with the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (2013).
