First-round interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis so we encourage you to apply early.
Greens MP Sue Higginson is seeking an experienced communications professional for a position in a small but dedicated team. Ideal candidates will have experience working with community groups in both digital and on-the-ground organising and be committed to achieving meaningful outcomes across a broad range of issues. Applicants will be involved in all aspects of the office management as well as driving stakeholder, supporter and internal communication strategies to maximise visibility and engagement with Sue’s work.
This is a unique opportunity to be in a leading team that is challenging the status quo of politics in NSW and takes on every challenge from big to small. You’ll be working in a fast paced and dynamic environment that is highly responsive to the news of the day while also achieving long-term reform oriented goals. You will be responsible for interacting with key stakeholders, Greens members, constituents across the state both during Parliament sitting periods, regular office hours and on occasional trips intra-state to build community engagement and achieve campaign objectives. During sitting periods, you may be required to work evenings and will occasionally be required to work weekends away from home.
You will set targets and drive outcomes independently and with a high degree of autonomy while directly reporting to Sue on campaigns and materials. Sue needs you to be ready to hit the ground running and adapt quickly to changing circumstances to be outcomes oriented.
Sue’s journey started in the old-growth forests of North East NSW as a frontline activist and her passion for protecting our precious native forests is just as strong today. She is driven by justice, social and environmental. Sue is in the NSW Parliament to bring in laws to facilitate First Nations justice , to end logging our public native forests and the destruction of nature, and to challenge the corporate interests that want coal and gas mining extended and expanded in communities across our state.
As the former CEO and Principal Solicitor of the Environmental Defenders Office, Sue was responsible for challenging governments on their poor decisions and defending activists who have been caught by the creeping attacks on the democratic right to protest. She has taken governments and international corporations to court and won only to have laws changed to stop people from defending themselves. Now she’s in Parliament to make the change that we need to happen.
