  • Work Type: Part-Time 0.8 FTE (4 days per week)
  • Classification: Temporary part time employment for 3 months with a view to be full time ongoing employment. Subject to satisfactory performance and your needs.
  • Remuneration: Remuneration package range $74,996 - $84,820pa (depending on skills and experience) including salary, contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Sue is looking for a passionate, dynamic person to join her team in the NSW Parliament. You will be a Policy, Campaigns, Media and Communications Advisor. 

Sue is one of a team of seven Greens MPs and their teams in the NSW Parliament.

Sue’s portfolio responsibilities are: Climate Change - Environment - Planning - Justice - First Nations Justice and Heritage - Agriculture  Regional Communities - North Coast - Mid North Coast - New England North West

You will be working as part of a small dynamic team to effect as much positive change as possible in the relevant portfolios, inside and outside of Parliament. Sue is looking for someone to start up very soon.   

Core responsibilities

  • Policy and Reform. Undertake policy analysis and develop reform campaigns that are strategically aligned with Greens policy and consistent with Parliamentary opportunity.
  • Campaign and Advocacy. Design and deliver positive, powerful and effective campaigns focused on law and policy reform. Develop and deliver campaign content across various platforms for various stakeholders and audiences, including various media.
  • Community Organising. Coordinate and assist relevant stakeholders, Greens local groups and individuals to maximise their political power and amplify their voices to achieve law and policy reform.
  • Project Management. Execute key campaigns developed with Sue and team. Including managing milestones, community engagement, professional engagement, finances and reporting.
  • Sound Work Administration. To be organised, manage diaries, inquiries and competing deadlines. To contribute positively to the functions of a small office. To use technology, including social media and web-based applications.
  • Travel. Ability to travel throughout NSW when required. 

Selection criteria

  • Commitment to Greens’ policies and values. You care about environmental, social and economic justice, peace, non-violence and disarmament and grassroots democracy.
  • NSW political awareness. You have a sound knowledge of the NSW political sphere and understand relationships between different political interests in Parliament.
  • Excellent policy development and research skills. You have a demonstrated understanding of law and policy in NSW, the ability to comprehend and distil complicated information, and an understanding of the legislative process to achieve outcomes for reform. You have experience in, or demonstrated detailed understanding of one or more of the following policy areas with relevance to NSW: Climate Change - Environment - Planning - Justice - First Nations Justice and Heritage - Agriculture - Regional Communities - North Coast - Mid North Coast - New England North West. 
  • Project management skills. You have demonstrated experience in planning, overseeing and leading projects, working in a team. You can manage several projects simultaneously. You can manage and meet deadlines.
  • Campaign experience. You have campaign experience and can apply best practice field and/or digital campaigning tactics. You understand the media, in its various forms. 
  • Strong relationship skills. You have experience in building and maintaining relationships of trust with people from a diverse range of backgrounds, communities and professions.
  • Working independently and collaboratively You have the ability to work positively within a small team, across teams, and autonomously with minimal direction to manage priorities and achieve agreed outcomes. Including demonstrated initiative, collaborative work practice and a proven capacity to work unsupervised and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills. You are a strong communicator and can write simply and powerfully in a way that inspires people to take action. You can develop and convey political messaging effectively across various platforms to various and diverse audiences. You have proven analytical skills and sound experience in undertaking research and presenting concise briefings.
  • Technology Proficient. You are experienced in social media and web-based applications. Experience using Nation Builder, InDesign and the Creative Cloud suite, and web content creation, Photoshop Premiere Pro, photography and filming would be looked upon favourably.
  • Travel. Ability to travel throughout NSW when required.
