We count among our members the largest and many of the smallest organisations working in suicide prevention, as well as individuals including practitioners, researchers and community leaders. Members are at the heart of everything we do.

We collaborate with our members, organisations, governments, businesses, researchers, practitioners, and people with lived experience to reduce suicide rates in Australia.

The Role

  • Salary: $94,000
  • Location: Sydney-based (remote options considered).
  • Job Type: Full-time, hybrid (2-4 days in office), 12-month contract

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Advocacy and Media Manager to drive our advocacy agenda and amplify our messaging across various platforms. Reporting to the Director of Advocacy, you will play a key role in influencing policy, engaging stakeholders, and crafting compelling advocacy materials to make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead media relations efforts, identifying opportunities to amplify our advocacy messages in national and state-based media
  • Develop engaging advocacy content, including media releases, briefing papers, newsletters, and social media materials.
  • Manage digital content relating to advocacy across social media, email campaigns, and the website.
  • Monitor policy developments and identify opportunities to contribute to public debate.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement, building strong relationships with journalists, policymakers, partners, and community leaders at both state and federal levels
  • Strengthen advocacy efforts through strategic partnerships.
  • Manage key campaigns such as World Suicide Prevention Day.
  • Track and analyse media coverage and advocacy impact.

About You

You are a proactive and passionate communicator with experience managing advocacy campaigns or working in communications. You enjoy the challenge of ensuring that the critical issue of suicide gets the public attention that is needed to drive change, and the rewards of combatting the stigmas about suicide through clear public communication.

What You Bring

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to craft persuasive content.
  • Qualifications in communications / media.
  • Proven media relations experience and established contacts.
  • Strong multitasking and strategic planning abilities.
  • Experience engaging stakeholders in government or advocacy (desirable).
  • Background in public affairs, communications, or policy (communications agency experience a plus).
  • Proficiency in social media, analytics, and campaign strategies.
  • Enthusiastic, creative, ability to show initiative with a passion to make a difference.
