The main mission of the Sumba Hospitality Foundation is to drive a sustainable tourism development plan for the Indonesian island of Sumba. The core values of SHF are to nurture environmental awareness and cultural identity, and to empower local communities to enable responsible tourism. As part of its mission, the Foundation manages a full boarding hospitality and permaculture school for underprivileged youth, with a green eco-resort, providing vocational education, focusing on practical and soft skills.

Main responsibilities:

  • Teach culinary theory and practice while ensuring the quality of teaching and the teaching methodology
  • Ensure overall hygiene, discipline and quality in the kitchen and food production areas
  • Oversee a team of local staff and students to manage the food production for student and staff canteen, resort restaurant and event catering
  • Work collaboratively to create nutritious and inspiring food menus for the restaurant and staff/student meals
  • Provide creative, nutritious and flavoursome food for guests, staff and students
  • Carry out administrative formalities including product ordering, inventory controls, budget targets and staff management

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the Culinary industry with excellent references
  • Possess the necessary critical discipline of cooking experience to create a consistent quality of fresh, creative, palatable food
  • Affinity with SHF’s core values of sustainability, community empowerment, and education
  • Desire to work and actively participate within a social foundation’s educational network that changes the lives of individuals and entire communities.
  • Possess energy, enthusiasm, positivity and adaptability
  • Have teamwork, collaboration, creative and critical thinking capabilities

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a developing country
  • Have the ability to teach in both English and Bahasa Indonesia
  • Ability to differentiate for diverse learning needs
  • Diverse understanding of culinary financial accountability requirements

Terms & Conditions of Service:

  • Contracts are for a minimum 6-months with an initial probationary period of 3 months
  • Net monthly salary/stipend of $700.00 USD
  • Full Medical Insurance
  • For 12-month contracts - Sponsorship for a KITAS visa, valid for one year and extendable
  • Travel allowance subject to contract length.
  • Room and Board (3 Meals per Day), Weekly Laundry and Housekeeping Service
  • Annual leave of 30 paid working days, plus Indonesian public holidays. Up to 15 days paid sick leave per annum
