About the role

An exciting opportunity for a dynamic and skilled Finance Manager to join the Summer Foundation team. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Finance Manager plays a crucial role in leading all finance matters for the organisation including overseeing the organisation’s day to day finances, leading the organisation’s budgeting processes, annual statutory audit, strategic commercial and financial analysis, advice and planning whilst leading a small finance team.

You will enjoy and flourish in applying a strategic and commercial lens to financial matters and understanding and explaining the meaning behind the numbers. Systems thinking is your strength and you can apply a growth mindset to solving problems pragmatically.

You will be a confident communicator who builds relationships easily and is experienced in partnering with organisation leads and executive team members. You will enjoy getting involved in processes to drive efficiencies to achieve positive change and service excellence from the finance team.

  • Coaching and leading a small team to deliver service excellence
  • Prepare reports and papers for Board and Committee meetings
  • Reviewing systems and processes to ensure they are fit for purpose

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Leads the finance function, including providing financial recommendations and contributing to strategic organisational planning
  • Develops finance knowledge across the organisation, to assist the Executive and Managers to make appropriate decisions, taking financial impact into account
  • Leads, and develops a high performing finance team that maintains a culture of service excellence

Governance & Planning

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, including developing, maintaining and enforcing appropriate financial policies and procedures to ensure that effective internal controls are in place
  • Develop, implement and maintain an internal dashboard to monitor organisational KPI

Financial Management

  • Provides strategic financial advice to the Executive, including the development of key business cases and strategic initiatives, as well as input into strategic planning
  • Undertakes strategic financial planning for the organisation, forecasting future income, expenditure and cash flows by collecting, interpreting, and reviewing financial information
  • Provides regular timely and accurate financial reports to management, board and grant funders, including insightful analysis to inform decision making processes

Budgeting & Forecasting and Year end and audit

  • Leads the annual budget and re-forecast processes, to develop annual budgets, forecasts and multi-year plans in line with the strategic plan. Prepares commentary pack and presents this to the Executive for input.
  • Leads the annual audit process, ensuring audits are completed in a timely manner

What experience and skills are we looking for?

  • Professional CPA/CA qualified accountant
  • Experience of leading the finance function, including the delivery of management reports and analysis, audit, compliance, and budget development, ideally in a for-purpose organisation
  • Demonstrated skills in leading and developing a high performing team
  • Proficient with Excel and accounting packages - knowledge of Xero software would be considered beneficial
  • Strong analytical skills with and ability to solve problems proactively
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and build collaborative relationships across the organisation
