About the Role

As the Campaign and Communications Manager at SurfAid, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our fundraising and communications strategies, with a primary focus on managing our flagship Make A Wave campaign. You'll be an expert project manager, ideally with experience managing peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns, and will bring strong copywriting, communications, and design skills to the role. Working closely with program teams in Indonesia and Solomon Islands, you’ll help communicate SurfAid’s impact to global and local audiences.

Responsibilities

Fundraising & Communications Strategy - 5%

  • Strategy: Support the development of organisational fundraising, and marketing and communications strategies, developing yearly fundraising appeals, and growing SurfAid’s donor base.

Campaign Management - 45%

  • Strategic Development: Collaborate to create the annual Make A Wave strategy, setting clear goals and approaches for the campaign.
  • Sponsorship Recruitment: Identify, recruit, and convert key financial and in-kind sponsors, fostering strong relationships to ensure their continued participation in future campaigns.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with agencies to recruit stakeholders and encourage their involvement in the campaign.
  • Community Fundraiser Support: Work closely with community fundraisers to activate their participation and help them achieve their fundraising goals.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitor and report on campaign performance metrics to assess effectiveness and inform future strategies.

Communications - 45%

  • The Campaign and Communications Manager will be responsible for managing all internal and external communications for SurfAid.

External communications

  • Content Production: Create event materials, program and project materials, donor and partner resources, landing pages, fundraising sites, email journeys, information packs, social media content, pitch decks, impact reports, and more, ensuring adherence to SurfAid brand guidelines.
  • Email Marketing: Grow and maintain the SurfAid email list, plan and produce the monthly newsletter, fundraising appeals, and eDMs to engage supporters effectively.
  • Social Media Management: Increase engagement and followers across SurfAid’s social media accounts. Manage community interactions and produce regular, compelling content for all channels.
  • Website Management: Oversee updates and content management for the SurfAid website to ensure it remains current and aligned with our communication strategies.
  • Media and PR Partnerships: Manage relationships with media outlets and PR partners to maximise SurfAid’s presence and visibility.
  • Donor Communication: Collaborate with fundraising and program teams to ensure all communications related to donor requirements are executed accurately and timely.
  • Education and Awareness: Educate the SurfAid community on relevant development issues, enhancing their understanding and support of our mission.

Internal Communications

  • Collaboration with Program Teams: Work closely with the program team for the Solomon Islands and the in-country communication team for Indonesia to develop and approve project materials.
  • Organisational Reporting Support: Assist with organisational and program reporting.

Other 5%

  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing business and brand stakeholders to enhance collaboration and support for SurfAid’s mission.

  • Support for Leadership: Provide assistance to the CEO and other teams as needed to facilitate their work and enhance organisational effectiveness.

  • Program Knowledge: Maintain an in-depth understanding of SurfAid's programs to effectively communicate our impact and articulate the case for support.

  • Record Management: Ensure accurate and up-to-date records are maintained in Salesforce to support data integrity and reporting.

Selection Criteria: Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant area such as business, marketing, communications, design or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Experience copywriting for varying audiences.
  • Extensive experience designing high-quality digital and print content for varied channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns, including developing strategy, monitoring and reporting.
  • Experience fostering stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience developing budgets and consistently meeting financial targets.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple tasks to meet deadlines and manage workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently.

Essential Skills

  • Highly developed copywriting and design skills.
  • Advanced computer literacy.
  • Adaptable and responsive to the dynamic nature of a small organisation.

Desirable

  • Experience working for an INGO.
  • An interest in international development.
  • Understanding of the fundraising or surfing sectors.

Job Type

The role is a full time permanent role.

Location

The role is predominantly work from home with regular visits to SurfAid's Alexandria office.
