The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is the leading advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College is a not-for-profit organisation that represents more than 8600 surgeons and 1300 surgical trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates.

RACS also supports healthcare and surgical education in the Asia-Pacific region and is a substantial funder of surgical research. There are nine surgical specialties in Australasia being: Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery.

About the role

In this role you will provide expert advice and practical support to the Education Portfolio. You will ensure RACS education programs, activities and resources:

  • comply with RACS’ strategic direction and policies.
  • foster learning and demonstration of learning by incorporating evidence-based education principles, implementing approaches to training and assessment activities and utilising appropriate technologies.

You will teach professional development courses for fellows, supervisors, and examiners. You will also provide educational expertise to internal and external stakeholder groups (including but not limited to specialty training committees/boards, committees and cross-College projects) to maximise learning of both fellows and trainees.

In this role, you will help drive innovation in accordance with best practice medical education across RACS portfolios.

Skills and experience

  • Masters of Health Education (MSc) or equivalent qualification
  • Health professional background (e.g. nursing, allied health etc) is preferred
  • Extensive experience in design, delivery and evaluation of education programs
  • Extensive experience in facilitation of face to face and online courses
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects to meet set deadlines
  • Flexibility and agility to adapt to changing priorities and conditions
  • Ability to foster relationships and work collaboratively
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in design, development and evaluation of eLearning packages is desirable

Some travel, after hours and weekend work will be a requirement of this position.
