The Sydney Dogs and Cats Home (SD&CH) is highly respected within the animal welfare sector, providing shelter, food and veterinary care to lost, homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs and cats, until a time when such animals can either be reunited with their owners or found a new, suitable home.

2025 we are completing the construction of our new shelter which will be based in Kurnell.

Job description

This is a senior leadership role within the Veterinary Team, responsible for cross-functional coordination and contributing to organisational strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing day-to-day clinic administration tasks, ensuring high standards of animal care, client service, and administrative efficiency.
  • Maintaining a smooth, well-coordinated, and financially sustainable clinic environment.
  • Optimising workflows and managing inventory and financial tasks.
  • Optimising the clinic’s income-generating performance, balancing quality care with cost-effectiveness to ensure long-term success.
  • Assisting in developing and running veterinary related programs including student, volunteer and community programs.
  • Maintaining excellent communication with both internal and external stakeholders to build strong relationships, support seamless operations, and foster a collaborative clinic environment.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in veterinary or clinical operations, including 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven ability to lead operational change and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and financial performance.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and phone manner
  • Strong written and verbal communicative skills
  • Organised, flexible and attentive to the various needs of the vet team
  • Ability to use initiative, assume responsibility for tasks and to resolve problems
  • Knowledge of ezyVet and Xero advantageous but not essential
