Position Context

Sydney Metropolitan Institute of Technology (Sydney Met) is a registered private higher education institute with a vision for socially equitable and culturally responsive education. The Department of Social Work and Development at Sydney Met is expanding. Through our Department of Social Work and Development, Sydney Met currently delivers the undergraduate Bachelor of Social Work, accredited with TEQSA and provisionally accredited with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) that commenced in 2023, and is currently seeking accreditation for the postgraduate Master of Social Work (Qualifying), Graduate Diploma in Human and Community Services, and Graduate Certificate in Human and Community Services.

We are seeking passionate, values-driven Field Education Coordinator with a commitment to social work education to join Sydney Met as we roll out the Bachelor of Social Work, grow our student numbers, and plan for the anticipated Master of Social Work (Qualifying). Key Accountabilities

The Field Education Coordinator reports to the Head, Social Work and Development and will be responsible for:

  • Developing Field Education placement opportunities for social work through networking and industry visits.
  • Communicating with students and placement organisations concerning the requirements of Field Education.
  • Supporting students with pre-placement planning and ensuring compliance with ASWEAS standards.
  • Liaising with placement sites and oversighting students while on placement.
  • Implementing processes to administer placements effectively and efficiently.
  • Continuous improvement of internal systems to coordinate placements and maintaining secure and accurate records.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to resolve issues that arise for students while on placements.
  • Provision of external supervision as required.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.

Other Duties (as required):

  • Attend College events/forums.
  • Contribute to College marketing, recruitment, and community engagement.
  • Observe principles and practices of Equal Employment Opportunity.
  • Comply with Work, Health and Safety responsibilities, accountabilities, and authorities at Sydney Met.
  • Work within Sydney Met’s governance framework.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work (Qualifying) Degree.
  • Eligibility for full membership of the AASW
  • At least five years of full-time post-qualifying practice experience (or part-time equivalent).
  • Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills.
  • Awareness of Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.

Selection Criteria

  • Essential requirements as noted above.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional networks in the social work or human services sector.
  • High-level spoken and written communication skills for working with teams and organisations, including skills for building strong, effective professional relationships.
