About the Role

As a Solicitor for the TAC, you will play a critical part in ensuring appropriate use of the scheme for the ongoing benefit of the Victorian community.

You will manage a broad portfolio of litigated and non-litigated matters whilst working closely with the TAC business clients, where you will develop a deep understanding of their needs and provide legal advice that empowers them to make strong decisions in accordance with the Transport Accident Act. TAC Solicitors also represent and advocate for the business in a range of matters such as no fault disputes, VCAT applications, serious injury, common law and prosecutions matters.

Working closely with Plaintiff solicitors, courts, medical experts, and other key stakeholder, the role involves strong relationship building skills, and a high level of influencing and negotiation. You will have the opportunity to showcase your experience in understanding and interpreting complex legislation, engage in formal litigation, and utilise alternative dispute resolution methods. You will also exhibit your ability to apply analytical and strategic approaches to complex matters.

About the Team

You will become a supported team member of our collaborative Legal branch who sit within our broader Complex Recovery and Serious Injury division.

You will work alongside and be supported by one of four Senior Legal Managers, who are driven to promote a collaborative and enabling culture across our team and work closely with Legal Assistants to ensure you have what you need to deliver the best outcomes for the scheme and our clients.

What you’ll need to succeed

• Hold a Bachelor of Laws, a current Victorian practicing certificate (or be eligible for), and be admitted as an Australian Lawyer
• Understanding of the Transport Accident Act, and the ability to read and interpret complex legislation and common law principles
• Experience attending and appearing at courts or tribunals
• Litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience
• Ability to think analytically and apply strategic approaches to achieve optimal outcomes
• Exceptional ability to manage competing priorities under strict timeframes
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including maintaining professional relationships and influencing and negotiating outcomes
