About National Futures Initiatives

The National Futures Initiative is dedicated to creating the opportunity, time, and space for Australia to thoughtfully envision and actively work towards a more equitable and just future.

Seed-funded for five years by the Paul Ramsay Foundation, this initiative is grounded in extensive research, including a comprehensive review of over 170 projects, and collaborative design work with Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) to integrate Indigenous knowledge at its core. Our goal is to foster transformative experiences that spark meaningful dialogue, strengthen communities, and drive systemic change.

The role

The National Futures Initiative is seeking an experienced and passionate Creative Event and Experience Producer with strong project management skills to bring this innovative, transformative model to life across multiple locations in Australia.

This role is part-time (0.6FTE) will involve travel across Australia, with extended periods of travel during key activation phases.

As part of this role, you will collaborate with a broad range of partners to coordinate a variety of engaging events and experiences including community dialogues, interactive workshops and immersive exhibitions. You will be responsible for continuously refining and evolving the approach, ensuring it remains relevant and impactful.

The role may include activities such as:

• Working with the TACSI team designing a 12 month program of activations and finalising a contract and budget with partners.
• Working with graphic designers to produce promotional materials for an activation including banners and a website.
• Negotiating with not-for-profits, government and community members to run a series of futures workshops in spaces across the community.
• Working with local traditional custodians and Indigenous systems thinkers to bring Indigenous Knowledge to the experiences of the initiative.
• Coordinating preparation of workshops
• Working with press who are reporting on the initiative
• Inviting local MPs to open events
• Overseeing documentation of the workshops in film and audio, and the production of a podcast, video and report on the workshops
• Supporting curators at national profile museums to scope exhibitions about the future.

Your key responsibilities

Partnership Development

• Cultivate and manage strong relationships with a broad range of partners, including community groups, cultural institutions, non-profits, government bodies, businesses, and First Nations organisations.
• Foster collaboration across sectors to ensure the initiative reaches and engages diverse audiences.

Experience Activation

• Plan, coordinate, and execute a variety of engaging events and experiences, including community dialogues, interactive workshops, immersive exhibitions, and more.
• Curating event themes and creative strategies and working with collaborators to respond to these meaningfully.
• Oversee all logistical aspects, from venue selection and event coordination to facilitation and ensuring seamless execution.
• Lead recruitment efforts to attract diverse participants to join the initiative’s programs.
• Work across the broader TACSI network, producing a variety of events and experiences such as community-building activities, educational events, and promotional experiences.

Knowledge Products

• Collaborate on the creation of documentation and knowledge-sharing materials, including print, digital, and film products, to capture and share key learnings and outcomes from each experience.
• Help develop and execute marketing strategies to promote events and projects, while crafting compelling stories that engage audiences and enhance brand visibility.

Project Management

• Creatively deliver high-quality experiences while adhering to budget and timeline constraints.
• Manage all aspects of project delivery, ensuring the initiative’s objectives are met with efficiency and excellence.

Evaluation and improvement

• Lead the evaluation process for events and activities, gathering insights and feedback from participants and partners to inform future improvements.
• Contribute to the ongoing refinement of the initiative’s design based on evaluation findings.

Lead self and others

• Leading and managing creative teams.
• Be a role model from business and cultural perspectives and champion TACSI’s ‘Words to Live By’.
• Engage in core TACSI routines and learning experiences.
• Invest in your own self-awareness and personal development, including understanding leadership from diverse perspectives
• Ensure the promotion and implementation of a safe, productive and healthy work

Your skills and experience

Event and experience production:

• Proven experience in creative event and experience production, including managing complex logistics and delivering impactful, community-centered events.
• Ability to oversee the creation of high-quality knowledge products in print, digital, and film formats.

Project management

• Experience in developing and maintaining effective partnerships across diverse sectors such as community groups, cultural institutions, non-profits, and businesses.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to balance creative vision with financial and operational constraints.
• Highly organised, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Lead self and others

• Experience in leading and managing creative teams.
• Ability to manage your own time and priorities, and seek support when required.

Your knowledge

• Knowledge in experience activation
• A deep understanding of and sensitivity to First Nations perspectives, practices, and cultures with a desire to build and share knowledge of cultural competency.
• Knowledge of project management principles, including budget management, timeline creation, and resource allocation for events.
• Knowledge of risk management, safety regulations, and legal requirements for events.
• Knowledge of human centred design and innovation methods (desirable)
• Familiarity with key trends in social impact, social policy and community development (desirable)

Your education

• Desirable - Qualifications or relevant experience in a related discipline such as Design, Event Management, Curation, Hospitality Management, Theatre production or Communications.

This role will have no direct reports, instead you will leverage the strengths and knowledge of the entire ‘network’ and the focus of the work will be working alongside the following people:

• Chris Vanstone, Co-CEO, who provides strategic advisory and is currently leading the National Futures Initiative.
• National Futures Team consisting of a Social Innovator and Principal.
• Communications and Engagement Lead to help manage events and marketing processes.
• Social innovation practitioners from across the TACSI network who deliver and develop events and knowledge products.

You will have the opportunity to work across and provide support to the TACSI network, across the various change units, including; System Initiatives; Consulting and TACSI’s Learning Hub.

Your financial responsibility

The role holds financial responsibility as aligned to the TACSI Delegation Framework. The individual will be responsible for ensuring all expenditure and acquittal of receipts in line with TACSI Policies.
