TasCOSS is hiring a Policy & Reform Lead to lead our policy-related initiatives and work closely with the community services industry and government to transform industry sustainability and impact.

  • Location: Hobart, Tasmania
  • Conditions: Full-time (38 hours per week); fixed-term contract until January 2026, may be extended subject to funding
  • Award & Salary Package: SCHCADS Level 7, plus TasCOSS Staff Wages Policy ($125,430 per annum + 11.5% superannuation)

THE ROLE:

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Policy & Reform Lead is a key member of the Leadership Team in establishing and implementing strategic direction for TasCOSS. The position is responsible for leading TasCOSS’s policy-related work to challenge and change the systems, behaviours and attitudes that create poverty, inequality and exclusion.

The role will lead a small team to advance systemic change in the community services industry to improve outcomes for individuals and communities. This will include working closely with the community services industry and governments to transform industry sustainability and impact, and responding to the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government's Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings.

The Policy & Reform Lead is required to work with a high degree of autonomy in setting priorities, with minimal supervision and exercising initiative and professional judgement. Some intra/interstate travel and occasional out-of-hours work may be required.

TO BE ELIGIBLE AND SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION, YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (or experience deemed equivalent) and management experience within the community services industry.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the community services industry, including emerging trends, regulatory frameworks and best practices, along with the ability to drive innovation and systems improvement.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, government agencies, funding bodies, industry and community groups.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure, solve complex problems and manage risk effectively.

The successful candidate will be able advocate effectively for issues at a high level, lead and manage teams effectively, and have a strong commitment to social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion.
