The Position

The Northern Organiser will work with the State Director and Campaign Manager to provide day-to-day support to candidates and volunteers, helping achieve the field campaign goals for the Federal Election in northern Tasmania.

Working closely with the campaign team, the Northern Organiser will play a crucial role in meeting voter contact targets by supporting and training candidates and volunteers to engage in thousands of persuasive conversations with Tasmanian voters.

Activities include:

  • Door-knocking
  • Telephone outreach
  • Public events

As part of the Tasmanian Greens' commitment to wellbeing, the Northern Organiser will foster a positive campaign tone and culture while being attentive to the physical and mental wellbeing of staff, volunteers, and candidates.

Salary

  • $67,600 + 11.5% superannuation

  • Australian Greens Staff Collective Agreement

Start Date

  • TBC As the election date is unknown, the start date will either be the 5 April or as soon as the election is called if prior to this date.

Hours

  • 22.8 hours per week for 8 weeks (inclusive of Saturday)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the execution of the field campaign strategy.
  • Plan and organise events, launches, training sessions, candidate briefings, and other campaign activities in northern Tasmania, primarily in Launceston.
  • Support volunteer local organisers in running voter contact and volunteer recruitment campaigns.
  • Ensure local teams have the training, support, and resources necessary to perform their roles safely, effectively, and in alignment with the campaign plan.

Selection Criteria

  • Experience in organising and field campaigning, or enthusiasm and ability to learn.
  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting and managing volunteers, and supporting them in leadership roles.
  • Strong leadership and persuasive communication skills.
  • Knowledge of best-practice voter contact techniques, and ability to train volunteers in these techniques.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure, be sensitive to others’ needs in high-pressure environments, and maintain good self-care.
  • Strong political acumen and commitment to Greens principles.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of Australian Greens systems (CiviCRM, Rocket, GVIRS, List and events manager).
