ABOUT THE BIG ISSUE CLASSROOM

The Big Issue Australia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and creating work opportunities for people experiencing homelessness, marginalisation and disadvantage.

The Big Issue Classroom is a social enterprise run by The Big Issue Australia that delivers a range of educational workshops for primary, secondary and tertiary students, community groups and corporate audiences on issues surrounding homelessness and marginalisation.

ABOUT THE ROLE – FACILITATOR

This is casual position based in Melbourne CBD. This role provides a great mix of education and community development by working with school students, community groups and guest speakers.

The Facilitator will deliver one-hour workshops to a range of audiences and support the involvement of guest speakers who have personally experienced homelessness.

You may also be asked to deliver online workshops, participate in promotional activities and complete administrative tasks.

Hours vary week to week, so this role would suit someone with good availability and flexibility during school term.

Full training provided.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in teaching or facilitating training or workshops
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Confidence presenting to a range of audiences, including school-aged children
  • Sensitivity and patience working with challenging behaviours
  • Understanding of issues faced by people experiencing homelessness
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgement
  • A friendly and flexible attitude
