The Position
The position is an administrative officer role and has a varied range of tasks:
1. Customer Service
You will be rostered as the Duty Officer to take incoming phone calls and email inquiries. You will be required to build your knowledge about all aspects of the TLN program to be able to respond to, and solve inquiries. This is a core function of this administrative role.
2. Supporting Online course delivery
The TLN delivers online training courses to member schools and union partners. There is administrative work in setting up, delivering and following on from these courses. Examples of the work performed in the role include, sending reminder emails, marking course attendance, collating evaluation data. You will be responsible for these tasks across a group of training sessions.
3. Technical phone support
This is an extension of the Customer Service role described above. When online courses are being delivered TLN provides phone support for members who experience difficulty accessing the online courses.
Working conditions
- Standard TLN office hours are 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. However, the role requires the person to have some flexibility in their working hours. The person may be required to work up to one day per week from 4.00pm – 8.00pm. (A roster applies and consultation takes place about that roster). Many courses are delivered during school holidays and availability during the school holidays is important to the role.
- The TLN office is located in the AEU building in Trenerry Crescent Abbotsford. Currently TLN staff have a hybrid model of working, including in-office and from home. Currently all staff work in the office on a Tuesday to participate in staff and team meetings. On the job training and support will be provided by TLN staff: there may be a greater requirement for in-office attendance during the training period.
- TLN is a small organisation and staff commit to being ‘all rounders’, doing what is required to deliver the service to members. The role requires the person to be open and flexible in their approach to the work role.
Employment conditions and salary
- The position is offered as a fixed term contract. TLN has a contract with the Department of Education to deliver professional development services and the job is linked to that funding.
- The position becomes available at the beginning of March 2024 or as soon as the person is available to commence the role.
- The position is full time. However, people who are interested in part time work are also encouraged to submit their application.
- TLN has its own staff agreement with salaries following the Victorian Government School Agreement salary scales. This position is classified at Level 1 Range 2, for which the salary band is $54,916 to $70,329. There are generous and flexible leave conditions and superannuation is paid at 16%.
Selection Criteria
- You need to be comfortable with technology. TLN uses the full suite of Microsoft products, a separate database and Learning Management System, and the Zoom online delivery platform. The role requires the person to be confident in learning and using these systems.
- You will have direct contact with members from schools and early childhood centres often in a problem solving capacity, so an orientation to customer service, along with social and emotional maturity is critical to the role. Customer Service for the role includes strong written and oral communication skills i.e. fluency in oral and written English is an essential requirement of the position.
- You will need to be comfortable working in a small team where clear communication, relationship building, and flexibility are emphasised, including the ability to develop connections with team members when working remotely.
- You must be comfortable working within the values of the two education unions, AEU and IEU, who own the TLN. Your commitment to union values will be an important part of your application.
- Experience in a training or education environment is desirable but is not essential.
