• Support Worker with music or social media interest

I, Blake, am a young man with a cheeky sense of humour and an appetite for marshmallows. I spend time volunteering, exploring the world on walks or drives in the car, and chilling-out at home. I am a Christian with strong links to a local church.

I happen to have an intellectual impairment and am non-verbal. I need support in day-to-day living, in my interaction with others, and in participating as a valued member of wider community groups.

My support team is working to empower me to reach my goal of living in my own home like other men in their mid-twenties. I am looking for people to join my team. These people will seek to build upon my achievements and help me to develop new ones.

My home in Tingalpa.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

I am looking to share special interests with others who also enjoy the same activities.

Music Interest: If you have an interest in music, you can support me to achieve my goal of enjoying and interacting with music by playing live instruments and singing with me.

OR

Social Media Interest: If social media is your special thing, support me to achieve my goal of using social media to celebrate my achievements, document my life, and connect with my communities. I am interested in creating my own website, which I will need your help with.

You will also support me in daily life activities such as: preparing meals, household cleaning and chores, bathing and grooming, dressing, toileting and continence management, community involvement, and therapy exercises.

HOURS OF WORK:

This job is for a minimum of 10 hours per week (excluding sleepover shifts); usually from Friday to Sunday. Shifts alternate fortnightly so that you can still enjoy your weekends too. There is also the addition of 1-2 sleepover shifts during the week from Monday to Thursday where you are paid an allowance to sleep at my house and offer occasional support to me through the night. Shifts may be flexible based on your personal circumstances.

BENEFITS:

You will be employed by my family. We pay above award rates outlined by the SCHADS Award, Home Care Employee, Part Time. The minimum starting point is Level 2 PayPoint 2, or $23.35 per hour. Rates increase depending on your experience and the particular times and days of your shifts. We also pay Super guarantee of 10%.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• Male (in accordance with anti-discrimination legislation)
• Age 21+ (for insurance reasons)
• Australian Driver’s Licence
• Blue card, Yellow card

Experience in the disability sector is NOT necessary to work with me. Instead, it is essential to have a willingness to work with disability and a mindset of growth. My family and support team will provide the training you will need. Your passion can support my ongoing development.
