About the roles
When you are successful in this role, you’ll know that you are contributing to seeing change for individuals and communities, and supporting local organisations to work effectively and sustainably.
You will:
- Be responsible for managing a portfolio of development projects in a small number of countries including effective desk, remote and in-country (in-person) monitoring of project work
- Contribute to Tearfund’s project appraisal processes and work with international partners to ensure quality and appropriateness of project design
- Work towards Tearfund’s theory of change that seeks to support international partners to be strong and capable organisations, enabling and facilitating community-led development initiatives
- Be a member of, and contribute to, a well-functioning and experienced team of development practitioners and a broader team of Tearfund staff who are passionate about their work.
These part time roles (3 days per week) will play a critical part in Tearfund’s vision of supporting community-based Christian partners as they work holistically with communities living in poverty in development, relief and advocacy.
Note: One position is a 14 month parental leave fixed term position which will not require travel.
Position Location: A mix of in-office at Blackburn, Melbourne (with hybrid possibilities), or remotely in another Australian city.
What this role will require…
- A sound understanding of good development practice and a commitment to Tearfund’s priorities in development practice, especially respectful partner relationships.
- Strong international development project management skills demonstrated by experience in designing, monitoring and evaluating projects, and the ability to interpret project budgets and track expenditure.

- An active Christian faith and a strong commitment to Tearfund’s Christian mission, values and ethos.
- A demonstrated ability to work respectfully and communicate sensitively across cultures.
- An ability to develop plans and reports suitable for government and institutional funders.
- The ability to travel to developing countries and remote locations for up to 8 weeks per year (South Asia role only).
- Demonstrated ability to work within, implement and manage compliance obligations and related systems.
- A willingness to work flexibly based on the needs of international partners.
- Relevant qualifications in development studies or related fields
