The Role
- To provide efficient and high-quality information to renters on their rights and options to support them in resolving renting issues, and to make referrals where appropriate.
- Provide direct service on the Tenants Victoria renter support lines including assessment and provision of information and referrals, including both Tenants Victoria services and external support services.
- Assist in the development of an effective client process on the renter support line, including the documenting of this process and any related policies or procedures.
- Participate both in the continuing development of the renter support line program and in the activities of the Client Services Team.
- To participate in other community groups, partnerships and new initiatives which Tenants Victoria work in partnership with.
- Be mindful of the cultural and social influences that each tenant may present with, including being sensitive to trauma and providing culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander renters.
- Work with all tenants using a strength-based and pro-social approach
Who are you?
The ideal person for this role is a confident practitioner with a passion for social justice and a sound understanding of intake and referrals in the social and community services, or housing sector.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience and skills in client-focused case work practice
- Knowledge and experience of residential tenancy and social housing system, or the ability to quickly gain this.
- Understanding of the legislative requirements of the Residential Tenancies Act, or the ability to quickly gain this.
- Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of tenants experiencing vulnerability or disadvantage including people experiencing mental illness and family violence.
- Effective stress management and self care skills.
- Effective communication skills, including written and verbal skills.
- Demonstrated experience in effective team work, interpersonal and liaison skills.
- Proven experience in balancing a high volume caseload coupled with strong administrative, organisational and IT skills
- Completion or partial completion of a relevant tertiary qualification (for example in Law Degree, Social Work, Psychology and/or related behavioural sciences) at degree level.
12 Month contract role with opportunity to go permanent.
