Thamarrurr Development Corporation (TDC) is seeking a Community Housing Officer to join our dynamic team.

TDC operates to support Wadeye, a large remote indigenous community in the North-West Daly region. We are a thriving Not-for-Profit corporate entity organisation, owned by members of the Wangka, Tjanpa and Lirga peoples. TDC has been established by the 20 clans of the Thamarrurr Region to represent them in relation to business, socio-economic development and employment and training. We employ some 230 staff across a wide range of enterprises and initiatives, both in Wadeye and Darwin.

About the opportunity

Based in Wadeye, the primary role of the Community Housing Officer is to provide Tenancy Management Support Services and to assist with delivery of the Living Strong Program in accordance with the Remote Public Housing Management Framework (RPHMF) and TDC’s existing ‘Supply of Remote Tenancy Management Support Services’ contract.

This position will work closely with community based and visiting employees from Territory Families, Housing and Communities and TDC’s Healthy Homes department, to provide tenancy support services across Wadeye and deliver The Living Strong Program. The Living Strong Program has been developed to provide additional support and develop knowledge and skills of tenants to successfully maintain a safe and healthy home and living environment.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Tenancy Management Support Services
  • Assist with appropriate and efficient delivery of the Living Strong Program
  • Compliance with the RPHMF, Contract and NT’s Residential Tenancies Act
  • Provision of culturally appropriate on the job supervision, training, guidance and mentoring of Local Kardu Community Housing Officers
  • Maintain a consistently professional, friendly and culturally appropriate presence throughout all aspects of the role from the office through to in-home visits

About You

The Successful Candidate will have:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Indigenous cultural awareness and empathy
  • Professional and friendly demeanour possessing a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Excellent problem solving, conflict resolution and initiative
  • Organised with the ability to effectively prioritise and manage a busy workload
  • Experience in the tenancy sector or experience delivering programs remotely

Qualifications

  • Cert IV in Real Estate Practice or Diploma of Property highly desirable
  • White card (or willingness to obtain)

You will also be required to obtain and maintain:

  • National Police clearance (with assistance)
  • Northern Land Council (NLC) residence & work permits (with assistance)
