About the Role

This dynamic and rewarding position involves:

  • Membership Growth: Recruiting new members and driving active participation.
  • Engagement & Training: Supporting and coaching local representatives to manage their zones effectively.
  • Advocacy: Assisting members with workplace issues, providing basic industrial support, and contributing to enterprise bargaining processes.
  • Communications: Assist in delivering impactful member communications, including newsletters and digital content.
  • Campaign Coordination: Organising workplace visits, events, and campaigns that align with AFPA’s objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Membership Growth and Engagement:

  • Proactively recruit new members while retaining and engaging the existing membership base.
  • Identify growth areas and potential member cohorts to expand the association's influence.
  • Conduct workplace visits and represent the AFPA to potential and existing members.

Advocacy and Representation:

  • Provide basic industrial and professional advice, advocating for members on workplace issues and grievances.
  • Assist with collective bargaining processes and industrial disputes in coordination with senior officials.

Campaigns and Organising:

  • Develop and implement organising strategies and membership campaigns in alignment with the AFPA's goals.
  • Strengthen existing membership and associated structure through structured site visits.
  • Empower workplace representatives to build activism and leadership within their sectors.

Communication and Content Creation:

  • Facilitate effective communication between members, delegates, and the AFPA leadership.
  • Assist draft publications, articles, and digital content for AFPA communications.

Education and Training:

  • Deliver and support training for Workplace Delegates, focusing on member engagement and advocacy.

What We’re Looking For:

We want a self-motivated individual with:

  • Demonstrated commitment to AFPA values and principles.
  • Proven experience in membership recruitment and organising within a union or related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Sound knowledge of industrial relations, workplace agreements, and relevant legislation.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and in a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital communication tools.

Desirable:

  • Experience in advocacy, negotiation, or representation in industrial contexts.
  • Background in law enforcement or AFPAs, with knowledge of relevant industrial instruments.
  • Knowledge or experience with the Australian Federal Police or similar environments.
  • Have a current Police Check (National Police Certificate) or the ability to obtain one.
