<h3>Position</h3>
<p>The Bicycle Mechanic &amp; Assistant Manager role will work closely with The Bike Shed's manager to ensure the smooth operation of the organisation through volunteer coordination &amp; training, working with volunteers to repair secondhand bikes for sale &amp; donation, ensuring scrap bikes are properly recycled, and taking responsibility for the cleanliness &amp; general organisation of the space.</p>
<p>Depending on the candidate, the position may also be responsible for the organising and execution of a <a href="https://thebikeshed.org.au/mechanics-courses/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mechanics course</a> and/or the running of additional public-facing <a href="https://thebikeshed.org.au/fix-your-own-bike/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fix-your-own-bike</a> workshops with scope for hours to grow and include these as a regular part of the role.</p>

<h3>Hours:</h3>
<ul>
<li>Flexibility for the correct candidate(s).</li>
<li>Ideally Friday &amp; Saturday, with the opportunity to run workshops &amp; courses on additional days.</li>
<li>Additional admin hours when required.</li>

<p>Position will remain open until the appropriate candidate(s) are found with the aim of starting as soon as possible.</p>
<h3>Responsibilities</h3>
<ul>
<li>Open and run The Bike Shed on at least one weekday per week as a 'regular' volunteer day on which you will work with volunteers to repair bicycles which are then sold or donated.</li>
<li>Assist our manager during our busy Saturday sales days, primarily working with our volunteers but also serving and assisting customers.</li>
<li>Work closely with volunteers, teaching them bicycle maintenance skills and ensuring that all repairs are made to a high standard, thoroughly checking all completed repairs.</li>
<li>Ensure all materials are properly organised and recycled, helping others to do the same.</li>
<li>Making sure The Bike Shed remains clean and organised.</li>
<li>Sorting and organising received donations (i.e. bikes, components, accessories).</li>
<li>Working with the Bike Shed&rsquo;s manager, committee, and volunteers to encourage and embrace a diverse community catering to a wide variety of backgrounds, needs, and requirements.</li>
<li>Regularly use and check communication systems including Xero, Slack and email.</li>
<li>Manage time effectively to ensure a well-run and effective space.</li>
<li>Attend committee meetings when required.</li>
<li>Make sure timesheets are completed at the end of each pay cycle.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Scope to grow</h3>
<ul>
<li>
<p>The role may grow to include running public 'fix-your-own-bike' (FYOB) workshops to be run in addition to our current Thursday workshops. This would include: arriving ahead of time to set up for the workshop; assisting members of the public to fix issues with their bikes, with an emphasis on teaching rather than doing; and managing volunteer helpers during the workshop.</p>

<p>The role may also include delivering course content for beginners' mechanics 101 courses, similar to those previously undertaken at The Bike Shed. This would include: developing and promoting course enrolment prior to the start date; refining course content based on previous courses held; delivering content to up to 8 public-facing participants; and collecting and delivering feedback to The Bike Shed committee throughout the duration of the course.</p>

<h3>Required Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
<li>Strong organisational and communication skills with excellent presentation skills that promote quality learning outcomes.</li>
<li>Strong bicycle mechanic knowledge and problem-solving skills - professional experience preferred.</li>
<li>Ability to work collaboratively and communicate with colleagues, and volunteers.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently, without supervision.</li>
