About the role

We’re seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead critical financial operations and provide strategic support in a hands-on and purpose-driven environment.

As Finance Manager, you’ll play a central role in shaping the financial sustainability of our organisation, working closely with program managers, senior leaders, and external stakeholders. You’ll oversee budgeting, forecasting, grant management, financial reporting, compliance, and more—ensuring our mission is supported by sound financial practices and strategic decision-making.

Although no two days will be the same, responsibilities will include:

  • Financial Planning & Budgeting: Managing annual budgeting and forecasting processes; providing insights and scenario analysis to support strategic goals
  • Reporting & Compliance: Managing month-end processes, preparing internal and external reports and overseeing compliance with regulations including BAS, GST, and FBT.
  • Grant Management & Acquittals: Working with program managers to track funding, preparing financial acquittals and ensuring compliance with donor and funding requirements.
  • Cash Flow & Treasury: Overseeing cash flow management, banking relationships and payment processes.
  • Team Leadership: Supervising and mentoring the Financial Accountant and Finance Officer, fostering a supportive and high-performing team culture.
  • Internal Controls & Improvements: Strengthening financial controls and driving process improvements across the finance function.
  • Strategic Support: Working with the Head of Finance to develop financial strategies, assessing new opportunities and providing insights for growth.

About You

Our new Finance Manager will be able to show the following skills and experience:

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related discipline
  • CPA or CA qualification
  • 4+ years of financial management experience, including reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Proven experience managing grant funding and preparing acquittals (ideally in the not-for-profit or government-funded sector)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with finance teams
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant accounting standards (e.g., AASB, IFRS, grant management)
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems, including Microsoft BC
  • A strong business intelligence mindset, with a focus on delivering timely, meaningful insights to support effective decision-making.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, especially when engaging with non-financial stakeholders
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
  • High integrity, ethical conduct, and a commitment to continuous improvement
