For over forty years, The Skin & Cancer Foundation, trading as The Skin Hospital, has been dedicated to providing excellence in clinical care for skin diseases. With two purpose-built and accredited sites in Sydney, we offer more than 20 specialty skin clinics, serving the needs of patients and collaborating with over 50 dermatologists. As part of our continued commitment to holistic patient care, we are seeking a Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team and contribute to the emotional well-being and psychological support of our patients.

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Psychologist to provide therapeutic support to patients dealing with a range of skin conditions, from chronic dermatological issues to the emotional and psychological impacts of visible skin conditions. You will work collaboratively with our dermatology and medical teams to ensure patients receive comprehensive care, addressing both physical and psychological aspects of their health.

In this role, you will:

  • Patient Support: Provide psychological assessment, counselling, and therapy to patients experiencing emotional distress related to skin conditions such as anxiety, depression, body image concerns, and stress management.
  • Collaborative Care: Work closely with dermatologists and other medical professionals to provide an integrated, patient-centred approach to care, ensuring psychological aspects are considered in treatment plans.
  • Therapeutic Services: Offer individual therapy sessions, group therapy, and workshops for patients facing the psychological challenges of chronic skin conditions.
  • Education and Advocacy: Educate patients and families on the psychological impacts of skin conditions and the coping strategies available, while promoting self-esteem and mental well-being.
  • Psychological Assessments: Conduct thorough psychological assessments to help identify emotional, behavioural, and cognitive factors affecting patient health and quality of life.
  • Research & Development: Contribute to the development of psychological resources, including educational materials, workshops, and support programs tailored to the needs of patients with dermatological conditions.
  • Confidentiality & Ethics: Ensure that all patient interactions and records are handled with the utmost confidentiality and in accordance with legal and ethical standards.

About you:

We are looking for a Psychologist who has:

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Psychology (Clinical or Health Psychology).
  • Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience providing psychological support to individuals, with a focus on chronic health conditions or body image-related concerns.
  • Experience working in a private practice setting is highly desirable, especially in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • A patient-centred approach to therapy and a strong understanding of how chronic skin conditions can impact mental and emotional health.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and dedicated to improving patient well-being.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a caseload effectively.
