About The Remote Pools Project:

The Remote Pools Project is a community-led initiative focused on improving the health and wellbeing of First Nations communities in remote Australia. By operating and revitalising swimming pools in areas like Central and Top End Northern Territory, we promote water safety, physical activity, and social connection. Our pools serve as vital community hubs, offering a safe, fun space for families and fostering health education.

The Opportunity:

Are you passionate about pool operations, safety, and risk management? Do you have leadership experience in the aquatics industry? We’re looking for an experienced and dynamic Aquatic Operations Coordinator to oversee the safe and efficient operations of our remote pools in Big Rivers.

As the Aquatic Operations Coordinator, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that multiple pools operate smoothly, safely, and in compliance with industry standards. You’ll lead a team of lifeguards, coordinators, and operational staff, making sure all facilities meet safety requirements, risk management protocols, and are fully prepared for public use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Excellence: Oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring a seamless and efficient environment for all members and staff.
    Financial Leadership: Manage financial planning, payroll, budgeting, and reporting to ensure the centre's financial health and growth.
  • Team Management: Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team dedicated to delivering exceptional service and programs.
  • Risk Management: Implement and oversee risk management strategies to ensure a safe and secure environment in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Project Planning: Develop both long-term and short-term projects for the successful operation of the facility, including program development and strategies for long-term success.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop, engage, and collaborate to improve local relationships while identifying partnerships, programs, and events that may benefit the community and the Y.
  • Fostering Inclusiveness: Maintain a clean, welcoming, and open environment for all members of staff and the community.
  • Training: Assist the Regional Operations Manager in developing, coordinating, and implementing marketing plans designed to maintain and increase existing business and capture new opportunities within the region.

The successful candidate will be required to travel from time to time and this may include to Darwin, Alice Springs and Remote Pool locations. It is not anticipated that the travel will be any longer than one week and will usually be 2-3 nights.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience in aquatics operations, safety management, or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of pool operations, maintenance, and safety standards.
  • Experience in staff training, development, and performance management.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and safety standards (e.g., Royal Lifesaving Australia, YMCA guidelines).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a dynamic environment.
  • First Aid, CPR, and lifeguard certification (required).
  • Current NT driver’s license.

Mandatory Requirements

YMCA, including its Boards of Directors, are committed to the safety and well-being of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. YMCA requires that all applicants undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:

  • Valid Working with Children Clearance.
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check.

Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and a commitment to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
