About The Remote Pools Project:

The Remote Pools Project is a community-led initiative focused on improving the health and wellbeing of First Nations communities in remote Australia. By operating and revitalising swimming pools in areas like Central and Top End Northern Territory, we promote water safety, physical activity, and social connection. Our pools serve as vital community hubs, offering a safe, fun space for families and fostering health education.

The Opportunity:

We have two positions available located in Wadeye; a Pool Coordinator ($85,000p/a + $10,000p/a remote living allowance) and a Duty Manager ($75,000p/a + $10,000p/a remote living allowance) to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Wadeye community pool, this position is based in Wadeye, NT. Responsible for the day to day running of the pool, these positions will ensure safety, cleanliness, and excellent service for all pool users, while also leading a local team. The positions will support facilitating the continued success of these essential community resources.

About the Opportunity:

The pool is open all year around, Wednesday to Sunday, with free entry for all visitors.

With support from management and operations staff living outside of community, your key goals will be:

  • Open the pool consistently and safely, considering both physical and cultural safety
  • Recruit and support a casual team of local employees
  • Oversee learn-to-swim programs and water safety education
  • Work alongside community on any additional activities

Success in this role looks like the people of Wadeye feeling safe and proud to work, learn and gather at their pool.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in pool management, hospitality, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of pool maintenance, water quality standards, and health and safety protocols.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Previous experience working in remote or cross-cultural environments is an advantage.
  • First aid and lifeguard certifications (or willingness to obtain).
  • Commitment to working closely with local First Nations communities to deliver health and wellness benefits.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in challenging and remote environments.
  • Current NT driver’s license.

Mandatory Requirements

YMCA, including its Boards of Directors, are committed to the safety and well-being of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. YMCA requires that all applicants undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:

  • Valid Working with Children Clearance.
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check.

Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and a commitment to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
