Thorne Harbour Health

ABOUT US

Combining passion, commitment and activism, Thorne Harbour Health aims to improve the health and wellbeing of our LGBTIQ+ communities and of those living with or affected by HIV.

about the program

PRONTO! is a peer driven, community-based approach to reduce barriers to testing and early HIV detection. PRONTO! was established to reduce the testing barriers faced by the Gay and men who have sex with men (MSM) communities. PRONTO! services include peer rapid HIV testing and STI screening and medical practitioner facilitated Pre – Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) access clinics.

About the role

The specific role of the Peer Test Facilitator is to provide peer rapid HIV and STI testing to gay, bisexual, queer men and gender diverse people. The peer testers initiate and facilitate appropriate referrals into care and follow-up. Testing is conducted at the fixed sites both in St Kilda and Abbotsford & at outreach locations including sex on premises venues, festivals and community events.

The framework of this model is an amalgamation of peer education, lived-experience, health promotion and culturally sensitive intervention. The post holder is required to keep up to date with shifts and changes within the HIV and STI climate in Australia, related research and other social and cultural developments in an endeavour to ensure effective messaging and engagement.

The shifts available are both during daytime and evening, including Saturdays.

With excellent supervision, support and professional development opportunities, this is a richly rewarding role for the right candidate.
