About Thursday Girls:
Thursday Girls Group provides free, weekly therapy and support groups for women of any age, living with advanced, or metastatic, breast cancer (MBC).
There are currently three groups: two weekly women’s groups and a fortnightly group for the partners of the women. The groups have three main functions: to share information, create meaningful relationships with people in similar situations and get in touch with difficult feelings and thoughts, dilemmas and challenges.
About the Role:
Thursday Girls Group seeks a skilled and compassionate facilitator to lead a fortnightly support group for partners of women living with, or dying from, MBC. This role requires a high level of sensitivity and expertise in supporting individuals with complex emotional and social challenges related to living with a partner who has a life limiting illness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate professionally led support group sessions for partners of women (Thursday Girls past or present) with advanced or metastatic breast cancer.
- Create a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space for group members to express and share their thoughts and feelings.
- Facilitate group discussion, actively listen to participants, and respond empathetically to their needs.
- Facilitate positive group dynamics and encourage peer support among members.
- Intake and Assessment of prospective group members.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of group sessions.
- Collaborate with the Thursday Girls team on program development, peer supervision, debriefing.
- Support ongoing group evaluation led by Thursday Girls team.
- Meet prospective members before they join the group.
- Refer clients to appropriate resources and services when appropriate.
- Provide support to individual group members as needed.
- Maintain professional boundaries and ethical conduct.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualification in Psychotherapy, Counselling, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Group Therapy or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience working with loss and grief with a strong preference for experience with cancer patients.
- Experience facilitating support groups for individuals facing psychosocial and spiritual challenges.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Three (3) years of experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of community resources and support services in Victoria.
