Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society movement leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 100 National Chapters worldwide, and an International Secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness about the devastating impact of corruption and works with partners in government, the private sector and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Transparency International Australia (TIA) is the Australian chapter of TI. A key area of TIA’s work is the Accountable Mining Programme, which is coordinated globally by TIA and led in country by 20 TI chapters, including Australia.
The overall goal of the Accountable Mining Programme is to increase transparency and accountability in mining approval processes to prevent corruption. For mining to fully benefit the citizens of resource rich countries, its operations must be transparent and accountable. We want to see decisions about mining approvals made in an ethical and transparent way.
TIA is seeking an experienced environmental impact assessment practitioner to develop advocacy material promoting certification of environmental impact assessors and the requirement for impact assessment documents to be signed off by appropriately certified persons, specifically in the context of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) for resource projects in Queensland, Australia.
Further details of the consultancy, including selection criteria, are outlined in the attached expression of interest document.
