Bima Wear is proudly owned and operated by local women, including some of the original artists from 50 years ago. Our mission is to offer social, cultural and economic opportunity to Tiwi women and girls. We are a small group at present, and would like to attract more younger ones to work and learn with us. We design, print and sew casual, special occasion and ceremonial wear that celebrates our distinct language and culture. Our fabrics feature traditional designs and environmental representations that are central to Tiwi life. We would like to explore licensing opportunities, increase our skills in sewing our own products, and revitalise our screen-printing. We would also like to welcome more visitors to Bima Wear.
This is a rare, rewarding opportunity for the right person. You will need solid management experience, the appropriate technical background in sewing/textiles, marketing experience, excellent communication and listening skills, knowledge of the Indigenous art sector and a drive to participate in Aboriginal enterprise development.
Are you passionate about sewing and textiles? Perhaps you have other transferrable skills which are relevant. Would you thrive in a beautiful, remote location and are seeking an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution with your expertise? This could be you and we would like to know more!
A generous remuneration package is being offered to secure the right candidate.
