The UN Global Compact Network Australia Ltd (UNGCNA) is the Australian Local Network of the UN Global Compact. It is a not-for-profit organisation, incorporated under Australian law as a public company limited by guarantee. The UN Global Compact Network Australia has a fully constituted Board of Directors elected by members.

As the principal sustainability initiative in Australia, the UNGCNA brings together over 350 participants of the UN Global Compact, including over 60 of ASX listed companies, civil society organisations and universities, to advance responsible business and the private sector’s contribution to sustainable development.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the newly created role of Director of Marketing and Communications will be focused on membership growth and building brand awareness. The role combines high-level strategic thinking with hands-on execution, and requires an energetic, individual with experience in marketing strategy, communications and building affiliations and partnerships. Together with the Executive Director the position will shape the organisation's narrative, consistent with global messaging and ensure the UNGCNA builds a relevant profile and brand awareness.

This position will have multiple reports, including the Impact Manager, and the Senior Manager Engagement. The role will work across the business including with the Senior Manager, Business and Human Rights, the Senior Manager, Environment and Climate Change, and the Head of Sustainability Governance.

Key Roles and Responsibilities include;

  • Actively identify, engage, and convert prospective participants, ensuring UNGCNA continues to grow its corporate network and impact.
  • Provide strategic oversight and direction to the marketing and communications team, ensuring messaging aligns with business priorities and audience needs.
  • Help write publications that position the UNGCNA as a well-regarded commentator and trusted adviser on sustainability.
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow the organisation’s membership.
  • Lead direct engagement with CEOs, sustainability leaders, and corporate decision-makers, leverage a strong professional network to drive membership discussions and position UNGCNA as an essential partner.
  • Develop high-impact partnerships, identify, establish, and nurture collaborations with industry bodies, influencers, and media to amplify UNGCNA’s reach and credibility. Collaborate with stakeholders to co-create initiatives that drive growth and revenue impact, including working collaboratively with the Global Compact Office (the United Nations Global Compact’s headquarters) to evaluate the alignment of global marketing activities to our portfolio of activities.
  • Actively contribute to the delivery of key campaigns, projects, and initiatives

About You

You are experienced in technical marketing, and have demonstrated experience using data to inform decisions. You are an emotionally intelligent natural leader who is strategic, with the ability to support your team to remain focused on key objectives. Known as a team player, you draw energy from engaging face to face, and enjoy developing impactful relationships with external stakeholders.

Required Skills and Proficiencies

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a relevant field such as Marketing, Communication or Business Development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or similar.
  • Experience in project management including budgeting and reporting, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Practical experience in working in a sustainability role is highly desirable.
  • Experience in establishing and executing collaborative initiatives with private sector organisations, including fund raising, is desirable.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including full proficiency in the MS Office Suite.

The role is offered on a two-year contract in a part-time capacity (0.8 full-time equivalent) with potential for on-going work.
