The Role

Located in Boorloo/Perth, the Western Australian (WA) Campaign Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering TWS campaign strategy in WA. Reporting to the National Campaigns Director and accountable to the WA Committee of Management, the WA Campaign Manager works collaboratively with campaigners and organisers across Australia to deliver the Jarrah forests and Kimberley icon strategies and advance broader Organisational Campaign Plan objectives. In addition to strategic campaign management, the role oversees the operation of the WA campaign centre, including team leadership, budget oversight, and HR processes.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, plan strategically, and implement WA campaigns aligned with the Organisational Campaign Plan, while monitoring and reporting progress.
  • Provide leadership to staff, supporters, and community leaders to execute strategies effectively.
  • Oversee campaign budgets sustainably, ensuring efficient use of resources and innovation.
  • Build and maintain partnerships and alliances, particularly for WA campaigns, to support broader organisational goals.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align campaigns, communications, advocacy, and fundraising efforts.
  • Lead media engagement for campaigns, working closely with the Communications team.
  • Foster a positive organisational culture, build strong relationships, and actively engage in internal forums to maximise resource use.
  • Support staff through mentoring, empowerment, and performance development to enhance team effectiveness.
  • Develop risk assessments and ensure compliance with legal, organisational, and WH&S requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation to improve campaign strategies, operations, and organisational effectiveness.

About You

This position requires a blend of strategic thinking, high emotional intelligence, exceptional organisational skills, effective collaboration, and relationship-building skills to drive long-term protection, promotion, and restoration of nature and wilderness. Additionally, the WA Campaign Manager is a champion in fostering a healthy, inclusive workplace culture, contributing to the wellbeing and cohesion of both the WA office, and TWS as a whole.

Required Skills and Proficiencies

  • Significant experience in campaign strategy, media, lobbying, networking, and research, with a strong understanding of the not-for-profit sector.
  • Cross-team collaboration and project management experience.
  • Leadership, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to work both independently and in teams, including remotely.
  • High emotional intelligence, strong communication skills (written and verbal), and a good understanding of group dynamics including with voluntary boards or committees.
  • Analytical, organisational, and financial management skills.
  • Knowledge of Australian political, climate change, conservation issues, and First Nations perspectives.
  • Commitment to the values of The Wilderness Society.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, social science, law, communications, politics, or related field.
  • Current driver’s licence.
