Together Queensland Branch of the Australian Services Union (ASU) is a union representing approximately 30,000 members across diverse industries, including the Queensland Public Sector, Queensland Health, universities, private health, and various other private sector employers.

About the Role

We are looking for motivated individuals with a passion for making a difference in workers’ lives. This role is ideal for someone with a mix of interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills. If you have experience in advocacy, policy, human resources, or other areas requiring strong communication and organisational skills, we encourage you to apply.

As an Industrial Officer, you will:

• Provide advice and support to members on workplace matters.
• Represent members in meetings, interviews, and tribunals.
• Collaborate with workplace delegates and union staff to address industrial issues collectively.
• Contribute to broader union campaigns and activities.

This position is based at our South Brisbane office and may involve occasional travel within Queensland.

Key Responsibilities

• Offer timely, accurate industrial advice to union members on workplace and industrial issues.
• Represent members in workplace meetings and tribunals, advocating for their rights and fair treatment.
• Communicate complex information clearly, with a focus on understanding and resolution.
• Contribute to improving workplace conditions through collaboration with delegates and staff.
• Support the union’s campaigns to increase membership and participation.

Experience in industrial relations or law is not essential. If you have relevant skills from areas like advocacy, human resources, social work, or community engagement, we encourage you to apply.

Exposure to Vicarious Trauma

In this role, you are not expected to directly experience traumatic events. However, you may be exposed to vicarious trauma through discussions and interviews involving sensitive subjects such as domestic and family violence, deaths in custody, occupational violence, and related matters. To support your well-being, we have established comprehensive physical and psychosocial safety measures across all workplaces.

These include strategies to manage the risks associated with exposure to traumatic events and vicarious trauma.
